Local Charities and causes that you can help
On this page we are highlighting local causes and charities that really need our support. If there is anything you can do to help, then please do.
Lookaround is a local institution. It has been THE source for local news and events for decades, but is now under threat from ITV bosses in London, who wish to save cash by denying local news services. Their plan is to merge Tyne Tees and Border News, which will have a serious detrimental effect on our Local News Services - including the scrapping of our half hour daily news programme.
The Cumbrian Druid Order opposes this idea, and insists that Border TV be kept. We urge all those who feel as we do, that Cumbria, the Borders and the Isle of Man MUST keep our local TV, sign the petition and help as much as possible. Please click the link for more information
Over the last three decades, the National Trust and the Lake District National Park Authority have worked to actively manage eroded paths. Visible from miles away, scarred paths are ugly to look at, difficult to walk on and damage the heritage, archaeological and natural history qualities of the area.
Repairing eroded paths is not the statutory duty of the Highway Authority, nor anyone else because legally they are still 'open and fit for use'.
It's time consuming and expensive to provide hard wearing, comfortable walking surfaces and restore damaged landscape. Our teams work to strict guidelines and high standards, using local, traditional methods and modern technology where appropriate.
As many Lake District fells are sites of special scientific interest (SSSIs), English Nature provides expert advice in restoring these important habitats.
